A Project By Kwenee
a private space for the people who hold each other from far away.
Strand is a private, encrypted messaging app built for long-distance couples, friends, and family. No emails collected, no screenshots or screen recording allowed anywhere in the app, vanishing messages that disappear after viewing, and a Couple Space capped at one partner only, so loyalty stays built into the design, not just the relationship.
Currently an Android APK only (a work in progress, built and tested one quiet session at a time).
What is Strand
I built Strand for the people who can't take a stable messaging app for granted, or just want one space that feels like theirs and no one else's. A couple, a family, a tight circle of friends.
It's encrypted, it's quiet, and it doesn't try to be everything. Spaces for couples, squads, and family. Real calls. Nicknames, reactions, pins, @mentions, vanishing messages (all the small things that make a chat feel lived-in, without the noise of an app trying to sell you something).
No ads, ever. No email collection. Nothing saved outside the app. Privacy first isn't a tagline here (it's the entire design constraint I built around).
What Strand Stands On
Every feature in Strand serves one of two ideas: that a private conversation should stay private, and that the people you love should never have to wonder where they stand.
Pillar One
Strand was built for people who want a conversation that genuinely stays theirs. Privacy here isn't a settings toggle buried in a menu. It's baked into how the app works at every layer.
Pillar Two
Strand's Couple Space is built around a simple promise: one space, one partner, total clarity. There's no version of the app where a couple space quietly holds more than one relationship.
Confirmed Working
Every core feature below has been tested end-to-end on real devices. This isn't a concept, it's a working app.
Two-way audio and video, mute, hold, and camera flip (for both DMs and space calls).
Add, search, and sort people into Emergency, Important, or Family categories.
Real-time delivery so you never miss a message, call, or nudge.
Per-space nicknames with emoji, shown in place of usernames throughout chat.
Tappable call entries logged automatically, so nothing gets double-counted or missed.
Pin important messages in a space, or edit your own within an hour of sending.
A fixed set of reactions, plus a shake-style nudge to get someone's attention, gently.
Type "@" in a space to bring up member autocomplete, Messenger-style.
Text and media that disappear after viewing, with a personal, per-person open counter.
Getting Strand
Strand is currently distributed as a direct Android APK (it isn't on the Play Store yet), so Android users can install it straight from the file rather than searching for it in an app store.
iOS isn't supported yet. The groundwork is there in the code, but it's untested, and an iPhone version isn't available right now.
This is a real, working app being built one quiet session at a time, not a finished product. New features, polish, and a possible Play Store listing are all still ahead. If you try it, you're trying it early.
